Watching horror movies from the 70s (which I didn't see until the 90s) I kept noticing how when the couple was copulating (often just prior to the slasher throwing a harpoon through them) the girl was most often on top.

Not long back when I was feeling like an unhappy shit I skimmed through lots of TV. There are lots of pretty women like whosits on Dark Angel (they wouldn't get hired otherwise) and even a few pretty guys: Clark on Smallville or a couple of guys on Mutant X. But even with the sex candy I don't know how folks do it. The scripts announced their conclusion, the jokes punch lines are foreordained. And the commercials. If you don't switch channels you sit there helplessly wishing you could bash that damned Ford heir with a crowbar. (What else can a wholesome person do with self-loving billionaires.)

People have sex on TV nowadays. I grew up when Lucy and Desi slept in seperate, unrealistically narrow beds. Visiting my parents in the 70s they actually had a hooker in a storyline. Damn if that didn't seem like cultural evolution (natch, she was unhappy, unfullfilled as woman, you know the drill). It was more of a surpsise than you can imagine.

Now they fuck on TV. Under blankets. You ever do that? Me neither.

Those women seem to be on top an awful lot.

So I have to ask myself. Has heterosexuality changed a bunch. Not likely. And I know who those 70s slasher movies were made for: teenage boys.

So you can't wonder if having the woman up top is an often unrealized fantasy. You ask yourself, what is the undeclared thrill. As a bad high school English teacher would ask, what is the hidden subtext.

Thinking about my own preferences I'd rather fellate or perform cunnilingus than get screwed. I'd rather screw than get fellated. I'd much rather be the active person, not the passive one. I'm not sure what this says about me other than maybe I most enjoy being the one doing the pleasing. But in an active way.

Which is why the women themselves might (sometimes) prefer to be on top. To either dominate or be the active pleaser.
